Swiss-based offshore drilling giant Transocean has announced the execution of a six-well contract in Australia with an undisclosed operator for one of its ultra-deepwater drillships. The company received a contract for an estimated 320-day campaign set to commence in the first quarter of 2027. The drillship chosen for the job is the 2013-built Deepwater Skyros. The deal will contribute approximately $130m in backlog, excluding compensation for mobilisation and demobilisation. The award includes options that, if fully exercised, could keep the drillship working in Australia into early 2030. Currently, the rig is working for Murphy Oil off the Ivory Coast. The deal should end in March next year if the US oil firm does not exercise priced options, which could keep the rig busy into April. The contract and options with Murphy have $361,000 dayrates. The Deepwater Skyros completed a contract with TotalEnergies in Angola in September this year.
