Korean LNG Carrier Escapes Hormuz Blockade in International Shipping News 11/06/2026 A Korean-flagged vessel that had been stranded in the increasingly tense Strait of Hormuz crossed a deadly line for the second time since the blockade began. Following the earlier escape of a tanker, this time a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier successfully passed through the strait, opening a breathing space for the securing of additional logistics supply. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on June 11 that one Korean-flagged vessel that had been waiting inside the Strait of Hormuz had passed through the strait and entered normal navigation waters. The vessel was identified as an LNG carrier with a total of 8 crew members on board, including Korean nationals. It is understood that the decision to transit was led by the foreign charterer. It is analyzed that the shipping company, after close consultations with the charterer, determined that local conditions were at a level permitting safe navigation, and accordingly initiated the sudden departure. The government is maintaining security regarding the vessel’s specific specifications and route. A Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries official said, “It is difficult to disclose detailed information such as the vessel’s name or charterer, in consideration of crew safety and the shipping company’s operational position,” suggesting that the ministry is focused on providing safety support through real-time monitoring. With this successful escape, the number of Korea-related vessels remaining inside the Strait of Hormuz has decreased from 25 to 24. The number of Korean crew members stranded inside the strait has also fallen from 147 to 139, partially alleviating concerns over potential casualties. Of the crew members currently remaining inside the strait, 105 belong to Korean vessels and 34 to foreign vessels.
