Despite continued commitments from governments and companies to tackle plastic pollution, global plastic waste levels continue to rise, driven by increasing production and ongoing challenges in reducing plastic output. During its 13th session (PPR 13), held from 9 to 13 February 2026, the IMO Sub-Committee on Pollution Prevention and Response (PPR) finalised the 2026 Strategy and Action Plan to Address Marine Plastic Litter from Ships.
