HD Hyundai Heavy Industries halts all plants, launches safety training after fatal fire in Shipbuilding News 16/04/2026 HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, where a subcontractor employee died in a submarine fire, has temporarily halted production at the entire shipyard. On the 15th, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said it would stop operations at all plants and conduct special safety training. With this measure, production across the entire yard, including shipbuilding, has been temporarily disrupted. After the special safety training, production is set to resume on the 16th, but some submarine-related processes that received a partial work-stoppage order from the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) Ulsan Branch Office are excluded from the restart. At about 1:58 p.m. on the 9th, a fire broke out on the Navy’s 214-class submarine Hong Beom-do while it was undergoing depot-level maintenance (overhaul work performed at the shipyard to keep the hull and equipment at optimal performance) at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan Shipyard. A subcontractor employee in his 60s died in the accident.
