John Fredriksen-controlled Northern Ocean, a semisub rig spin-off of Northern Drilling, has won an extension for one of its semisub rigs in West Africa. The extension was awarded by a subsidiary of French energy major TotalEnergies to the 2018-built Deepsea Mira. The firm term of the contract is extended from October 2024 for one well and provides one additional well option. This latest extension provides a firm revenue backlog between $24m and $34m with the option to extend for an additional well potentially adding a further backlog in the region of $27m and $37m. In December of 2023, TotalEnergies exercised the first option under the semi’s contract extending its utilisation by 180 days and into the fourth quarter of 2024. Northern Ocean said at the time that the extension was worth between $68m and $75m.
