Uruguay-Mpox Outbreak in Africa: Precautions for Vessels Entering Uruguay 22 August 2024 No.1285 Tweet Download PDF (306KB) We have obtained information regarding precautions for vessels entering Uruguay concerning Mpox outbreak in Africa from the local correspondent CHADWICK WEIR NAVEGACION S.A. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently declared a "Public Health Emergency of International Concern" due to the outbreak of Mpox in many countries across Africa. As a result of this declaration, vessels arriving in Uruguay from Africa, or that have called at any port in Africa within the past 15 days, are required to adhere to the following measures. Medical check Local medical service providers have recommended that any seafarer displaying symptoms of fever should be checked by a physician on board to determine whether they have contracted Mpox. Notification Seafarers with fever symptoms should not be taken off board and should be reported to the local authorities immediately. As this situation may impact vessels navigating in the region, we advise you to consult with local agents as needed. For further information, please click here.
