Hapag-Lloyd will deploy Inmarsat’s NexusWave connectivity platform across its global fleet following successful onboard trials. The rollout supports the carrier’s Strategy 2030 and broader digitalisation plans. Hapag-Lloyd has worked with Inmarsat for nearly 25 years. The company began testing NexusWave in 2024 as it looked for a future-ready connectivity solution. The trials focused on operational performance, cybersecurity, application reliability and crew welfare. Crew members also reported a consistent, “home-like” internet experience with reliable global coverage. NexusWave combines Ka-band, low Earth orbit (LEO), LTE and L-band networks into a single managed service. The platform delivers high-speed connectivity, unlimited data and secure communications across the fleet. The system will support real-time collaboration, remote IT management, data-intensive applications and vessel performance monitoring. The agreement also includes Inmarsat’s Premium Care Programme, which provides 24/7 technical support and maintenance services at more than 80 ports worldwide. Hapag-Lloyd said the new platform will strengthen customer service, improve operational efficiency and support its sustainability goals. Donya Amer, Chief Information Officer and Chief Human Resources Officer at Hapag-Lloyd, said NexusWave provides a secure, resilient and scalable platform that supports the company’s long-term digital ambitions while improving connectivity for seafarers. Gert-Jan Panken, Vice President and General Manager of Inmarsat Maritime, said the agreement reflects the growing importance of connectivity as critical business infrastructure for the maritime industry.
