FacebookTwitterEmailLinkedin Hong Kong’s Marine Department (MD) is introducing a set of incentives aimed at accelerating the adoption of alternative marine fuels such as LNG, methanol, ammonia, and hydrogen. In a statement published on 24 June, Deputy Director of Marine Shi Qiang said the measures, developed since 2023 and included in the 2024 Action Plan on Green Maritime Fuel Bunkering, are backed by about HK$34 million (≈ US$4.36 million) in the 2026 budget. Rather than strict regulation, the approach is designed as a supportive signal to encourage early adoption while the market is still developing.
