In addition to the requirements of that Alert: • Prior to submission of the required SP-2 report to the Turkish Straits Vessel Traffic Service (TBGTH) two hours or twenty miles (32 kilometers) before entering the Turkish Straits, Masters should ensure that their vessels are technically fit as set forth in Annex 2 of the revised version of the Directive on Maritime Traffic Regulations for the Turkish Straits, Check List for Technical Conditions of Ships Passing Through the Turkish Straits. The Master is to sign the Check List and the pilot will confirm compliance upon boarding the vessel. • Vessels shall report to the TBGTH center — via phone, fax or VHF— any technical deficiencies including any deficiencies of their navigational systems, and any noncompliance with the conditions of the Check List which may jeopardize the ability to navigate safely. Any vessel that fails to report such conditions will be subject to legal action. Your Managers recommend that Members take note of this information and be guided accordingly. We thank Club correspondent Vitsan Mumessillik ve Musalvirlik, A.S. for their assistance on this topic and for providing the information upon which this Alert has been based.
