Italian energy services contractor Saipem, in partnership with COOEC, has been awarded an offshore EPCI contract for worth on the North Field worth $4bn by Qatar’s state-owned company QatarEnergy. The contract is for the so-called COMP5 package of the North Field Production Sustainability Offshore Compression Complexes project. The overall value of the contract is $4bn, while Saipem’s share amounts to approximately $3.1bn. The North Field Production Sustainability project is aimed at sustaining and increasing the production of the North Field offshore natural gas reservoir, located offshore the northeast coast of Qatar. The Qatari firm is aiming for the expansion project to boost the North Field’s LNG output to 142m tonnes per annum (mtpa) from the current 77 mtpa by 2030. The contract awarded to Saipem, with a total duration of approximately five years, comprises engineering, procurement, fabrication, and installation of two compression complexes, each including a compression platform, a living quarter platform, a flare platform supporting the gas combustion system, and the related interconnecting bridges. Each complex will have a total weight of about 68,000 tonnes, and the offshore installation operations will be carried out by Saipem’s De He construction vessel in 2029 and 2030. This new contract follows two previous ones awarded by QatarEnergy to the Italian giant. The two EPCI deals, designated COMP2 and COMP3, were awarded to Saipem in October 2022 and September 2024. Both projects are currently under execution.
