French startup Zéphyr & Borée has seen an order for five innovative containerships in South Korea cancelled. The $311m deal signed in May 2023 by Zéphyr & Borée and HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard ultimately did not result in a firm order. The yard said in a stock exchange filing that the order had been terminated at the shipowner’s request. The 1,300 teu newbuilds have been designed to feature rigid sails and dual diesel-methanol propulsion, offering an 80% lower carbon footprint on two transatlantic shipping lines, for which Zéphyr & Borée secured commitments by a group of shippers in 2022. The company said the order had been called off due to financing issues.
