Busan Port Authority recently announced that it is planning to develop LNG and methanol bunkering infrastructure at Busan New Port. Major plans include constructing a 370,000m³ LNG storage tank, a 150,000m³ green methanol storage tank, and berth facilities to enable safe ship-to-ship bunkering operations on a 123,000m² site within Busan New Port by 2032. The Busan Port Authority held in-depth discussions at a meeting with experts from related industries, academia, research institutes, and local governments to discuss the project and to gather expert opinions on the plan. The authority plans to actively reflect the recommendations gathered from experts in its business plans. In addition, it intends to swiftly pursue follow-up procedures such as its own preliminary feasibility review to accelerate the development of eco-friendly fuel infrastructure projects in a practical manner. Song Sang-geun, President of the Busan Port Authority , said, “Building an eco-friendly ship fuel supply system is a key task for Busan to leap forward as a global comprehensive maritime service leader. “We will do our utmost to ensure that Busan maintains the world’s highest level of competitiveness in the era of eco-friendly energy transition by incorporating the various opinions discussed at today’s meeting.”   Photo credit: Trac Vu on Unsplash Published: 18 May, 2026
