The vessel, carrying 243 passengers and crew, lost contact with its operator in the early hours of 13 September after encountering rough weather, according to Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas). The ferry’s last known position was approximately 81 nautical miles (150 km) from Banjarmasin, in South Kalimantan, according to reports citing the local search-and-rescue authorities.
