Container terminals at several major US gateways are facing vessel delays, with waiting times reaching up to 18 hours at Charleston and 12 hours at Los Angeles, according to Hapag-Lloyd’s latest North America operational update. The German carrier’s Week 36 data shows varying levels of congestion across key US ports, while several other gateways continue to operate with little or no vessel waiting time. Charleston records longest waiting times Charleston is seeing some of the most significant delays. At Wando Welch Terminal, vessels can face waiting times of up to six hours for Gemini services and up to 18 hours for non-Gemini vessels. Meanwhile, North Charleston Terminal is currently reporting no waiting time. Hapag-Lloyd also reported average truck turn times of around 24 minutes at Wando Welch Terminal and 23 minutes at North Charleston Terminal. Los Angeles sees 12-hour waits On the US West Coast, APM Terminals Pier 400 in Los Angeles is recording vessel waiting times of up to 12 hours across several services. Other Los Angeles terminals are performing better, with Yusen Terminals and Fenix Marine Services showing no vessel waiting time in Hapag-Lloyd’s service-level data. Despite the vessel delays at Pier 400, terminal gates across the Los Angeles/Long Beach complex are operating according to published schedules. Savannah delays ease Savannah is also experiencing delays, although at lower levels than those previously reported. Most Hapag-Lloyd services calling at the Georgia Ports Authority facilities are currently showing waiting times of up to six hours, while the TPI service is facing waits of around three hours. This represents an improvement from Hapag-Lloyd’s Week 35 update, when waiting times at Savannah’s Garden City Terminal reached up to 18 hours for both Gemini and non-Gemini vessels.
