The country's ambassador to the UK and permanent representative to the IMO, Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Saud Al-Thani , deposited the instrument of accession to the 1997 Protocol at a meeting with IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez at the organisation's London headquarters on Friday, the Qatar News Agency reported. The two discussed the accession's role in supporting international efforts to reduce air pollution from ships and protect the marine environment, as well as wider cooperation between Qatar and the IMO, according to the agency. They also discussed developments in the Strait of Hormuz and "the importance of ensuring the safety and continuity of maritime navigation and international trade through vital waterways in accordance with the provisions of international law," it said.
