Pursuant to Article 20 of the Turkish Environmental Code no. 1983, fines are imposed on vessels for causing pollution in Turkish waters through discharge of petroleum products, dirty ballast, garbage and sewage. The quantum of the fines are determined by a tariff which is revised annually. Our local correspondents, Omur Marine, have kindly provided us with the attached circular advising the new rates applicable from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2019, including practical information on acceptable security and recommended loss prevention measures. Our local correspondent recommend all members to take immediate contact with them to avoid delay and complications in connection with an alleged pollution incident, and pictures and/or videos may assist in defending the case. The Association is grateful to Omur Marine for contributing to this update.
