The advice and recommendations it contains have been developed for the consideration of shore-side staff when providing practical guidance to leadership teams on how to manage crew that may be experiencing stress as a result of prolonged onboard service. The guidance is aimed at non-healthcare professionals. However, in circumstances where any doubt should exist in any case involving crew general welfare and mental wellness, professional assistance should always be sought. The guidance considers three key areas: • Understanding Seafarers’ Needs • Advice on Addressing Seafarers’ Needs • Special Focus on Cyber Wellness In addition to this advice, examples of practices that have in prior cases eased the hardship associated with the COVID-19 pandemic are also provided. This advice can be found in the last section on additional best practices. Members will note this guidance is applicable to all ship types, and not just tankers, and are encouraged to take it into consideration and be guided accordingly.
