The passengers returned to Russia via the Norwegian town of Kirkenes on 8 September, following a court-ordered seizure of the Professor Molchanov on behalf of Ukrainian energy company Naftogaz. The company is seeking to enforce a $4.22 billion compensation award related to assets seized by Russia following its 2014 annexation of Crimea.
