Australia’s Woodside Energy has awarded Green Tug Towing a services contract valued at more than $300m to design and build four tugboats for its liquefied natural gas terminal in Louisiana. The deal pushes Woodside’s total spending on the project to over $1bn. Green Tug Towing, a joint venture between Harbor Docking & Towing and Saltchuk Marine Terminal Services, will manage construction of the vessels at C&C Marine and Repair’s shipyard in Belle Chasse, Louisiana. The four tugboats are scheduled to be delivered to the Louisiana LNG terminal in 2028 and will provide towing services for LNG tankers under a 20‑year agreement. Construction is scheduled to begin this year. “This contract is an important milestone for Louisiana LNG and demonstrates our commitment to investing in Louisiana. As we progress towards the targeted first LNG in 2029, Green Tug Towing will play a key role in ensuring Louisiana LNG can safely deliver a reliable supply to our global customers. This contract also demonstrates our ongoing commitment to supporting local suppliers and growing the shipbuilding industry in Louisiana,” said Daniel Kalms, Woodside EVP and COO for international projects. The contract will support about 70 direct local jobs, 30 indirect roles, and 60 temporary positions during construction. Green Tug also plans to operate a tug facility in Lake Charles to support ongoing operations at the terminal.
