Colombia-Drug smuggling report 2024 10 May 2024 No.1272 Tweet Download PDF (8,463KB) We have obtained the Drug Smuggling Report 2024 from the local correspondent A&A Multiprime. Colombian drug traffickers develop new complex trafficking patterns to use commercial vessels and their crew to transit illicit substances, especially cocaine, worldwide. If drugs are found on board the vessel, an investigation by the authorities and prosecutors will be initiated and the vessel will be detained. If the vessel is found guilty, a fine may be imposed. Members are advised to note that most common methods of drug smuggling are as follows: Hiding drugs in reefer containers carrying fruit, particularly bananas. Hiding drugs in remote locations on board such as cabins, funnels, decks, store room, or engine room. Burying packaged drugs within bulk cargoes. Placing camouflaged drugs within bulk cargoes. Placing bags filled with drugs in the sea chests. Attaching bagged drugs to the vessel’s hull, rudder, anchor, propeller, vents, or water inlets. For more details including preventive measures, please find the attached report. It is important to strengthen surveillance before entering the port, during the port stay, and even after departure from the port. When calling ports in Colombia, be vigilant to ensure that no drugs are brought on board the vessel. For further information, please click here.
