His research at University of West Attica (UNIWA) explores the development of a suit capable of automatically sending an SOS signal along with the surveyor’s exact location. “It’s about making sure every surveyor returns home safely at the end of each shift. The technology exists, but the maritime industry remains traditional,” Katsinellos said. He highlighted that the ultimate goal is to simplify the surveyor’s job, noting that surveyors currently need to carry cameras, gas meters, and notebooks. By integrating sensors directly into the equipment, the suit can manage data collection automatically, allowing surveyors to focus entirely on the ship’s structural integrity rather than handling multiple devices in confined spaces.
