Red Sea Diversion Tracker: Transits via Suez recover again in International Shipping News 17/06/2026 Transits via Suez recover again. The number of containerships sailing via the Suez Canal rose to 27 in the week ended 7 June and 28 in the week ended 14 June, according to the Drewry Red Sea Diversion Tracker. The diplomatic agreement after the Iran conflict could reset the clock on the return of more vessels to the Suez route, in Drewry’s view. In the 2-week period ended 14 June, 55 containerships transited through Suez, up 20% from the previous fortnight. In the week ended 14 June, CMA CGM (8 ships) and MSC (1 ship) and Maersk (3 ships) were the only carriers to send ships of more than 8,000teu via the Suez Canal. Two 24,000teu ship operated by CMA CGM and trading on the Asia-North Europe and Asia-Mediterranean routes as part of the Ocean Alliance transited the Canal. Meanwhile, the number of vessels sailing around the Cape of Good Hope declined to 181 in the week ended 14 June, down 204 in the previous week. Nevertheless, the Cape of Good Hope still remains the dominant route to connect Asia and Europe. Drewry provides updated forecasts of container traffic demand, bunker prices and freight rates in the March 2026 Drewry Container Forecaster, including rational scenarios to consider in planning.
