Correspondent Shepstone & Wylie Attorneys brings us this update. Problems at the Durban Gateway Terminal – formerly Durban Container Terminal Pier 2 - at the South African east coast port of Durban are causing significant berthing and operational delays.Legacy problems at the terminal include equipment failures, straddle carrier availability and yard congestion, with the situation worsening following a systems upgrade in mid-August. Recent vessel waiting times have been reported by local industry media to be as much as 8 – 12 days.Owners and charterers of container vessels calling at Durban should expect berthing and operational delays, reportedly for the next few weeks, while the backlog at the terminal is cleared.
