Greek capesize specialist Seanergy Maritime has revealed its second purchase this year that will take the company’s fleet to 19 ships. The Stamatis Tsantanis-led listed owner and operator has picked up a 2012-built 181,400 dwt unit for delivery in the third quarter of this year. Seanergy, whose fleet currently stands at one newcastlemax and 17 capes, took delivery of its first purchase in June. The 2013-built 181,392 dwt Iconship, acquired for $33.7m and already on charter to Costamare, is being financed via a five-year sale and leaseback with China’s Avic Leasing with a repurchase obligation attached. According to brokers at Intermodal, more than 80 capes have changed hands in the first seven months of 2024, up from last year’s record of 69 transactions in the same period.
