Apr. 11 2019 Home Class & statutory Seagoing ships on waterways LinkedIn Twitter Facebook share Ship typeInland Seagoing ships on waterways Seagoing vessels (including seagoing tugs and pushers) with statutory seagoing vessel certificates such as SOLAS, Load Lines, or MARPOL, may operate on tidal waters of the EU inland waterways (Article 2 of ED/2016/1629). They don’t need a Union Certificate, and compliance with the Directive is not required. Seagoing vessels navigating on the Rhine must carry a seagoing ship statutory certificate (technical requirements as regards construction, equipment and environment) but also have to comply with the ESTRIN’s special provisions applicable to seagoing vessels navigating on the Rhine (Article 25.01.2). Floating equipment must in addition be in compliance with the specific requirements for same. Seagoing ships and floating craft permitted to operate in coastal areas or at sea must be provided with a valid "Certificate for sea-going vessel operating on the Rhine” if they do not carry a valid "Inland navigation vessel certificate”. Dry dangerous goods may be carried in limited quantities in seagoing vessels complying with SOLAS 74, Chapter II-2, Regulation 19 or with SOLAS 74, Chapter II-2, Regulation 54 if they are in compliance with the applicable construction requirements of 9.2.0 to 9.2.0.79. Seagoing vessels which do not comply with the above–mentioned requirements of the SOLAS 74 Convention must meet the requirements of 9.1.0.0 to 9.1.0.79. Such seagoing vessels may carry in greater quantities dry dangerous goods of some classes, but they must in addition be in compliance with the additional rules 9.2.0.80 to 9.2.0.95 (double hull). If they do not comply with the above mentioned requirements of the SOLAS 74 Convention they must meet the requirements of 9.1.0.80 to 9.1.0.95. Seagoing vessels carrying liquid or gas dangerous goods may navigate on inland waterways only if they have an ADN certificate. Seagoing vessels may navigate on EU inland waterways with specific conditions, also specific inland navigation vessels may be authorized for domestic voyage in estuary or at sea. This is the case along the Belgian coast (Zeebrugge) and in some French estuary zones.
