Ocean Network Express has inaugurated the Iberia Baltic Express, a new weekly container shipping service calling at the Port of Riga that establishes the first direct connection in the port’s history between Latvia and Portuguese ports. The service extends ONE’s regional network significantly, providing Latvian exporters and importers with expanded access to European and global markets. The IBX rotation covers Leixões, Lisbon, Southampton, Rotterdam, Gdańsk, Riga, Klaipėda, Gdynia, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam and back to Leixões, with a weekly call at the Port of Riga. Transit times from Portuguese ports to Riga are estimated at approximately one week, while cargo from Rotterdam can reach Riga in approximately four days. The new service builds on ONE’s existing Baltic presence, which began in January 2025 with the Baltic Bridge Express connecting Baltic and Finnish ports to Rotterdam. The IBX represents a substantial expansion of that footprint, adding Portugal, the United Kingdom and additional European hubs to ONE’s regional offering. The Port of Riga is Latvia’s only port with regular container shipping lines and specialised container terminals, currently served by nine international container line vessels across 11 routes, a record for the port. Container volumes at Riga reached 495,700 TEUs in 2025, representing 98% of all container cargo handled at Latvian ports. Containers account for approximately 30% of the port’s total cargo portfolio and are identified as a strategic development priority, with the IBX launch adding meaningful frequency and geographic reach to the port’s container network.
