Ningbo Ocean Shipping Co (NBOSCO) is continuing its containership fleet expansion with a fresh newbuilding plan. The Shanghai-listed carrier said it will invest in four firm 1,900 teu vessels, with options for two more units. The move is part of a broader investment of up to CNY2.7bn ($390m) in total which also covers containers. The shipbuilding portion of the deal is capped at CNY1.7bn ($246m), according to stock exchange filing. The Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Group subsidiary has been steadily building out its presence in the regional feeder segment. The company currently operates a fleet of roughly 90 vessels and ranks 23rd globally among container carriers, with around 15 ships already on order. The latest move follows a string of orders placed through 2025 as the company ramps up its fleet renewal and expansion strategy. Last year, NBOSCO returned to CSSC’s Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding for a series of larger 4,300 teu vessels, signalling a push into bigger feeder and regional trades. That came on the back of previous orders for 2,700 teu ships, also placed in China, as the company looked to modernise its fleet with more efficient tonnage. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); });
