Amoysailing Maritime from Xiamen in China has been nailing one ship deal after another, this time, its second top bid at an auction in months. Sources tell Splash that the Chinese owner has taken advantage of the ongoing summer lull at an online auction sale tabling $27.8 m for the 2017-built ultramax Great Spring, a 64,000 dwt ship built at one of China’s reputable yards, Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering. The ship was registered previously as owned by a Chinese lessor. In July, a slightly smaller, same-aged Mitsui Ichihara-built bulker, the 60,000 dwt Xing Xi Hai, fetched $32 5m. Amoysailing can put the second quarter and third quarter of this year into its history books as its busiest months in the secondhand market ever, bringing its fleet up to 12 similar-sized bulkers.
