FacebookTwitterEmailLinkedin Global orders for liquefied natural gas carriers (LNGCs) are expected to rebound in 2026 after a slowdown in 2025, driven by rising LNG production and the push for more fuel-efficient vessels. The recovery is also being supported by a renewed wave of contracting activity in South Korea and China, where shipyards secured 35 new LNGC orders in the first quarter, according to Poten & Partners and Drewry. This compares with 37 orders across all of 2025, while 2022 marked a record year with 171 vessels ordered. Each LNG carrier typically costs between USD 250–260 million and requires more than three years to build.
