Image Credit: Bureau Veritas Chinese shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding has started construction of the world's largest LNG carrier, a 271,000 m3 vessel that will be built under the classification of Bureau Veritas . The 344 m dual-fuel vessel will have 57% more cargo capacity than a conventional 174,000 m3 LNG carrier, Bureau Veritas said in a statement on its website on Wednesday. The ship is designed with a daily cargo boil-off rate of 0.087% and complies with IMO Tier III emissions standards. The vessel is the first in a series of six 271,000 m3 LNG carriers to be classed by Bureau Veritas. “The project further demonstrates Bureau Veritas’ commitment to supporting the development of advanced LNG transportation solutions and facilitating the maritime industry’s energy transition,” Jeffrey Guo, M&O Asia Pacific Senior Vice-President at Bureau Veritas, said. The project marks China's first attempt to build LNG carriers of this size and is expected to expand global LNG transportation capacity once delivered. Hudong–Zhonghua Shipbuilding is a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) .
