Japanese shipping major Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) is bringing its shipmanagement activities under a single structure through the creation of a new intermediate holding company. K Line Ship Management Holdings will begin operations on April 1, taking oversight of the group’s shipmanagement companies as the owner moves to strengthen in-house technical management. The Tokyo-based owner said the new entity will coordinate shipmanagement activities across the group, allowing resources such as personnel, operational data and technical know-how to be shared more efficiently while improving oversight. K Line noted the move comes as shipmanagement faces rising demands from decarbonisation, digitalisation and the need to recruit and train skilled seafarers, adding that the new structure should help the group respond faster to regulatory and technical challenges while maintaining safety and service standards. Individual shipmanagement companies will continue handling day-to-day vessel operations, while the new holding company will focus on group-wide standards and management practices. The move mirrors similar consolidation steps by rival Japanese owner Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), which last year began integrating its shipmanagement activities under a single structure centred on its Singapore-based unit. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); }); TagsJapan Shipmanagement
