Marine construction contractor Ocean Installer, a Moreld subsidiary, has been awarded a contract for work on a life extension project on Equinor’s Mikkel field. The EPCI project includes detailed design work, fabrication, and installation of rigid spools, as well as the installation of a flow condition unit at the Mikkel field. Offshore operations are set to begin in 2027. The new spools will be fabricated using surplus material from previous projects, reducing costs, environmental footprint, and accelerating lead time. The field is an existing tie-back connected to the Åsgård subsea compression system in the Norwegian Sea. The flow condition unit is used to dampen and accumulate liquid surges transported together with the gas flow stream, dosing the liquid back into the gas flow stream at a more stable rate, according to the liquid handling capacity of the Åsgard subsea compression station.
