The announcement follows the recent approval of the IMO Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) Code, marking a significant regulatory milestone by establishing the first global framework for the safe operation of autonomous vessels. The code will remain non-mandatory until around 2032, as the industry moves towards wider adoption of autonomous technologies.
