Image for representation purposes only The U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, said that Ukraine has unintentionally targeted ships connected to the U.S. and the issue needs to be addressed. He also urged Russia and Ukraine to halt attacks on critical energy infrastructure in the Black Sea. Rubio did not name the ships which were attacked or clarify whether they had American owners, were registered in the U.S or had connections to the country through cargo or chartering. According to analysts, he might be referring to ships which frequent the Black Sea ports of Russia to load oil from the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, which carries crude from Kazakhstan to export facilities. In August, VP of the U.S JD Vance, had requested Kyiv to stop attacking tankers and ships arriving at the Russian Port of Novorossiysk, as it could disrupt oil markets and impact U.S. energy giants like ExxonMobil and Chevron. Ukraine had agreed not to target the pipeline and ships with no connections to Russia or its cargo. Russia and Ukraine have intensified attacks on each other’s infrastructure, including ports, coastal towns, refineries, desalination plants, storage terminals and vessels. Debris fallen on residential places and shopping centres has claimed the lives of over 100 people, including women and children. Russia is not letting Red Cross volunteers carry essential supplies into the city of Oleshky, which has trapped and starved the 2000 residents. When questioned, the Kremlin said it was Ukraine’s mistake, and this is the consequence of it. Ukraine has hit 300 shadow fleet tankers carrying Russian oil since July 2026, according to the commander of its drone forces.
