Image Credit: Ship & Bunker Environmental group Transport & Environment (T&E) has urged governments to pursue regional measures to cut shipping emissions rather than wait for agreement on the IMO ’s Net-Zero Framework (NZF) . The call follows the latest IMO negotiations , which ended without an agreement for the third consecutive meeting, it said in an emailed statement on Friday . T&E said the continued delays make action outside the global process increasingly important. The group argued that governments should continue advancing national and regional measures while negotiations on the NZF remain unresolved. “Governments should push forward with ambitious regional measures and must not wait for a global agreement before taking action,” Alex Springer , interim shipping director at T&E, said. T&E also warned that further delays could prolong the shipping industry’s dependence on fossil fuels and put decarbonisation efforts further behind schedule. The next IMO working group meeting is scheduled for November 30 to December 3, when governments are expected to resume discussions on the NZF.
