Image Credit: Ship & Bunker The IMO ’s Sub-Committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers (CCC) finalised revised interim guidelines last week for ships using methanol and other methyl/ethyl alcohol fuels. The CCS 12 session was held from 14-18 September , DNV said in a summary released on its website on Monday . The revised guidelines cover all sections of the existing framework and reflect experience gained from ships using these fuels. The changes provide greater flexibility in fuel tank placement and leakage-handling arrangements, while introducing a new approach to ventilation of fuel spaces. The guidelines also expand provisions covering bunkering station design and fire-extinguishing arrangements and add guidance on bunkering operations and personal protective equipment. The sub-committee also finalised a harmonised performance standard for lashing software to supplement the cargo securing manual. The revised methanol fuel guidelines remain subject to further consideration and approval by the IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee .
