Image Credits: US Navy The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier and its strike group arrived in Guam on Sept. 19 for a short stop to take on supplies and equipment. The visit was the first return to U.S. territory for Carrier Strike Group 3 personnel in nine months. The carrier has now been deployed for more than 300 days, entering its 10th month away from home. The Nimitz-class carrier, which is the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 3, arrived at Naval Base Guam with the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. The staffs of Carrier Air Wing 9 and Destroyer Squadron 21 were also on board. The Navy said the ships had returned to the U.S. Pacific Command area of responsibility after nearly seven months in the U.S. Central Command area. The strike group is now carrying out routine operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area. The Guam visit was mainly for logistics. The ships took on stores, mail and equipment, while sailors were allowed to spend time on the base. Per reports, the group arrived on Sept. 19 and left the next day. The Lincoln left Naval Station North Island in San Diego, California, on Nov. 21, 2025. It later joined U.S. naval forces in the Middle East and supported combat operations during the Iran war. By the time it reached Guam, the carrier had been deployed for about 302 to 304 days, according to the reports provided. The carrier had also gone more than 260 days without a scheduled port call. It spent 208 days at sea without a break and about 200 days in a combat zone. The long deployment has also led to concerns about the sailors aboard the carrier. Two sailors attempted to go overboard during the deployment. At an August town hall meeting in San Diego, military family members raised concerns about reported food shortages and self-harm.
