Ebola virus disease in West Africa (No.2) 14 August 2014 No.678 Members are referred to the previous Japan P&I News No.677 dated 1 August, 2014. We have received information from Budd Cote d’Ivoire advising that as of 10 August 2014, Abidjan Port Authority is preventing any ships from entry which have been in an area affected by Ebola virus disease. Also, wherever ships have come from, the Abidjan Port Authority must be notified if anyone on board has Ebola-type symptoms and the port authority will decide whether the ship can be allowed into the port. Members are reminded of a risk that the ship’s entry into the port of Abidjan may be rejected by the port authority in case that anyone on board has Ebola-type symptoms, even if the ship has no record to have called at an area affected by Ebola virus disease and thus the illness of which the person on board is showing symptoms is unlikely to be Ebola virus disease.
