Greek owner Panos Laskaridis is stepping up his move into crude tankers, lining up another suezmax newbuilding in South Korea. Shipbuilding sources say Laskaridis Shipping has contracted a 157,000 dwt vessel at DH Shipbuilding, with delivery slated for the second quarter of 2029. The deal follows a contract announced by the yard for an undisclosed buyer, valued at around $89m, with brokers now confirming Laskaridis interests as the counterparty. The latest order brings the owner’s suezmax series at the yard to three vessels. Splash reported earlier this year that the owner had booked the first two units in January, both scheduled for delivery by April 2029. The newly added ship is expected to follow in June that year. Market talk suggests the Greek owner could add a fourth unit as it builds scale in the segment. Laskaridis has traditionally been more exposed to dry bulk, where it has a sizeable kamsarmax newbuilding programme in China, but it also has exposure in the smaller product tanker market. The January orders, however, signalled a push into the crude segment, with the latest deal reinforcing that direction. For DH Shipbuilding, the contract adds to a strong run in the suezmax sector.
