Ame rican Club Circular No. 33 /15 1 JULY 23, 2015 CIRCULAR NO. 33/15 TO MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION Dear Member: THE LIQUEFACTION OF BULK CARGOES: AN UPDATE As Members may be aware, there have recently been reports of the apparent liquefaction of nickel ore cargoes loaded in the Philippines. In one case, a cargo loaded at Loreto Dinogat appears to have liquefied, causing the vessel carrying it to develop a dangerous list. This resulted in one crew death which occurred as the vessel was abandoned, but happily with no further loss of life. Members are urged to take full account of the risks of carrying bulk cargoes which are prone to liquefy and to ensure full compliance with the requirements of the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code. In order to assist Members in this respect, your Managers have launched a new section on the Club’s website which supplies information and guidance regarding bulk cargoes which may liquefy.
