American Club Circular No. 34/11 1 NOVEMBER 21, 2011 CIRCULAR NO. 34/11 TO MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION Dear Member: E-LEARNING TOOLS: NEW MODULE ON ENTRY INTO ENCLOSED SPACES, THE CASE OF THE SILENT ASSASSIN Your Managers are pleased to report the release of a new e-Learning module, The Case of the Silent Assassin, which deals with the hazards of entering enclosed spaces on board ship. Seafarers and shipowners alike know all too well of the fatalities which can tragically attend such seemingly routine activities. All modules are accessible wherever there is a connection to the Internet, or through the shipboard Plug and Play system, thus making it easy and convenient for seafarers to study the subject matter before they join their ships. The system also includes a secure online testing facility. Members can track their seafarers’ knowledge and keep up-to-date records of familiarization training in compliance with both the STCW Convention and the company’s safety management system requirements under the ISM Code. All Members with owner entries in the American Club have access to the program via the website https://secure.idessonline.com/americanclub/facility/. Members who have not registered are encouraged to do so at the earliest opportunity. Other modules currently available to Members are: Stranger on the Bridge — 3 case studies on bridge resource management with the pilot onboard; and American Club Circular No. 34/11 2 Clean Seas: Complying with MARPOL 73/78 —modules available on annexes I (oil pollution), IV (sewage) and V (garbage). If Members have any questions, they should feel free to contact Dr. William Moore, Senior Vice President at +1 212 847 4542 or by e-mail at william.moore@american-club.com. Yours faithfully, Joseph E.M. Hughes, Chairman & CEO Shipowners Claims Bureau, Inc., Managers for THE AMERICAN CLUB
