The Port of HaminaKotka handled 5.29 million tonnes of cargo between January and May 2026, a decline of 11.5% compared with the same period last year. Exports totaled 3.62 million tonnes, down 14.4% year-on-year. Lower volumes of dry bulk, sawn goods, wood pulp, paper and general cargo weighed on overall performance. Export dry bulk volumes fell 22.1% to 1.05 million tonnes, while paper exports declined 10.8% to 865,105 tonnes. Import volumes reached 1.67 million tonnes, down 4.4% from the previous year. Imports of raw wood dropped 23.8% to 543,788 tonnes and general cargo decreased 5.5% to 192,359 tonnes. However, liquid bulk imports increased 9.3% to 535,258 tonnes and dry bulk imports rose 13.1% to 235,153 tonnes. In May alone, the port handled 1.18 million tonnes of cargo. Exports accounted for 786,951 tonnes, while imports reached 391,878 tonnes. Transit traffic fell 23.1% in the first five months of the year to 1.08 million tonnes. Coastal traffic, however, surged 209.1% to 32,326 tonnes. Container throughput reached 270,658 TEUs between January and May, down 4.7% year-on-year. Vessel calls also declined, with 773 ships visiting the port during the period, compared with 947 a year earlier.
