Baltic Container Terminal, ICTSI’s operation at the Port of Gdynia, has successfully handled the inaugural call of MSC Venice, the largest and longest vessel ever to dock at the port. The 399-metre vessel, with a capacity of 16,652 TEUs, demonstrates the port’s capability to service the largest container ships currently operating in the Baltic Sea. The milestone is the direct result of a series of infrastructure investments undertaken across multiple stakeholders in recent years. Port-side improvements include the deepening of port waters, the reconstruction of the Helskie Quay and the expansion of Turning Basin No. 2, creating the physical conditions for the safe handling of ultra-large vessels. At the terminal level, BCT has recently commissioned new quay cranes and yard equipment, significantly expanding operational capabilities and handling capacity. Piotr Gorzeński, President and CEO of the Port of Gdynia Authority, described the maiden call of MSC Venice as a historic moment and a tangible result of the transformative investments made across the port in recent years. Patrick Chan, CEO of BCT, characterised the vessel’s arrival as a defining moment that validates the significant investments made by all stakeholders and reinforces BCT’s position as a deep-water gateway port supporting Poland’s economic growth.
