The Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority convened its regular monthly meeting, advancing a range of initiatives spanning export development, workforce education, maritime infrastructure and Ship Channel planning. Chairman Ric Campo highlighted the recent launch of Export Houston, a three-part programme developed in partnership with the Greater Houston Partnership to help local businesses explore exporting, build international trade skills and receive individualised support to enter new markets. Port Houston CEO Charlie Jenkins emphasised the importance of strengthening the maritime workforce pipeline, announcing the development of a centralised website under the Port Houston Partners in Maritime Education initiative. Jenkins also recognised the port’s truck driver community following National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, noting that 99 percent of Port Houston’s containers are moved by truck, with its two container terminals together serving approximately 10,000 trucks daily. On infrastructure planning, Port Houston participated in two coordination meetings with the US Army Corps of Engineers focused on the status of Project 11 segments, upcoming operations and maintenance needs and ongoing regulatory efforts. The port also joined the ports of Galveston and Texas City alongside industry stakeholders for an initial Project 12 pre-Federal Interest Determination meeting, a long-term initiative at an early stage of consideration, where preliminary study plans were developed and a path forward for continued regional coordination was identified.
