After meeting its annual order target in the first quarter, it secured new volume at the very start of the second quarter. Daehan Shipbuilding said on the 16th that it signed a construction contract on the 14th with an Africa-based shipping company for one Suezmax crude oil tanker worth 133 billion won. The tanker ordered this time is scheduled to be delivered to the shipowner by July 2029. The deal came as an additional order from an existing new customer. The company first ordered two vessels of the same type in January this year, added one option in March, and has now firmed up the remaining one option. With this, the company has contracted a total of four Suezmax crude oil tankers with Daehan Shipbuilding before the first vessel is delivered. Including this contract, Daehan Shipbuilding has booked a cumulative 13 vessels this year and is maintaining the No. 1 global market share in Suezmaxes. Demand for Suezmax tankers is on the rise due to tighter environmental regulations and growing demand to replace aging ships. Since entering this market in 2018, Daehan Shipbuilding has built out its design and production systems. Daehan Shipbuilding has secured construction volume through the end of 2029.
