Image Credit: Tsuneishi Japanese shipbuilder Tsuneishi Group ’s Zhoushan unit has delivered its third dual-fuel methanol-fuelled container ship. The 5,900 TEU capacity vessel is capable of operating on methanol or conventional marine fuels, it said in a statement on its website on Monday . “As international environmental regulations continue to tighten, demand for alternative-fuelled vessels is expected to expand further, the firm added. “TZS will continue to develop and construct vessels that combine environmental performance, safety and operational reliability, contributing to the realisation of sustainable maritime transport.” Methanol is seen as one of the more practical alternative fuels because it can be handled using relatively familiar infrastructure compared with some other emerging marine fuels. The container segment has led orders for methanol-fuelled newbuilds.
