Image Credit: Exmar Maritime transportation firm Exmar is set to convert a 20-year -old LNG carrier into a floating transshipment unit (FTU) for the LNG bunkering market. The company has taken delivery of the 146,000 m3 vessel, Simaisa , which is secured under an initial seven-year charter contract with an unnamed party, it said in a press release on Thursday . Simaisa will soon enter dry dock for modifications to make it suitable for use as an FTU. The unit will receive large LNG cargoes from LNG carriers, while LNG bunker vessels will load the fuel from the FTU before supplying to LNG-fuelled ships. Exmar said the setup would help reduce logistics costs associated with LNG bunkering. “EXMAR is gladly assisting its client in further paving the way to unlock LNG as a fuel for the shipping industry,” Carl-Antoine Saverys , CEO of Exmar, said. “The FTU is a smart solution with which our client bring down the costs of the logistics relating to the LNG bunkering.” “With this solution, we are building upon EXMAR’s close to 50 years of LNG experience. "We look forward deploying more of these assets to unlock the full potential of LNG as a fuel for the maritime industry.” Ship & Bunker News Team To contact the editor responsible for this story email us at [email protected] Also in the News
