This has created continuing challenges for maritime security. A recent report, Columbia Drug Smuggling Report 2024, provides the latest intelligence on emerging smuggling practices and communicates the essential precautions to be taken by ships visiting Colombian ports. It reports on new concerns of local authorities regarding the placement of drugs in cargoes which now include fruits, coal, and scrap, as well as newly identified trafficking routes that extend beyond Colombia to other South American ports. The report also covers the latest regulatory updates, including the Colombian Highest Maritime Authority’s (DIMAR's) Resolution No. 0502 of 2023 on ship security alert systems.
