The Japan Transport and Tourism Research Institute (JTTRI) has signed two memoranda of understanding in India to strengthen maritime research cooperation. The agreements were signed with the Indian Ports Association (IPA) and the Centre for Maritime Economy and Connectivity (CMEC). Both agreements cover research cooperation and joint projects over the next five years. JTTRI signed the MoUs last Friday as part of efforts to expand cooperation across South Asia. The IPA supports policy development and provides consulting services for port and harbor infrastructure in India. The organization works to support growth across India’s maritime sector. CMEC was established in 2023. The center focuses on supporting national maritime strategies and connectivity initiatives. JTTRI plans to strengthen its presence in India. The institute expects to open a local office in the country later this year. The organization said it continues building relationships with both public and private stakeholders across India and South Asia. JTTRI said discussions with IPA and CMEC confirmed shared interests in maritime research. The institute believes stronger collaboration will support higher-quality research and strengthen maritime development across the Indo-Pacific region. The agreements also aim to support growth across ports, shipping and wider maritime industries.
