The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has launched the first round of its Roberts Bank Terminal 2 community investment program, inviting Delta organizations to apply for funding supporting initiatives that create lasting local benefits or strengthen conservation efforts. The launch coincides with continued momentum on the terminal project, including its referral to the federal Major Projects Office and the selection of a preferred construction partner for the landmass and wharf component. Pre-construction funding available through the program includes CAD 300,000 in community funding across 2026 and 2027, and CAD 200,000 in community spaces enhancement funding for creating or improving community spaces, with projects identified in collaboration with community leaders in Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta. Applications for the initial CAD 150,000 available in the first intake must be submitted by September 10, 2026. Further funding is expected to be distributed during the project construction phase, including a CAD 500,000 community education fund and CAD 5 million in funding for community projects and initiatives. The port authority will also continue engagement with First Nations on a Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Indigenous legacy benefit fund, complementing mutual benefit agreements already signed with 27 First Nations, which provide for jobs, environmental initiatives, and training and contracting opportunities for communities including Tsawwassen First Nation and Musqueam Indian Band. Roberts Bank Terminal 2 is projected to unlock CAD 100 billion in annual trade capacity, create more than 7,400 construction jobs and over 1,000 ongoing positions in Delta, and support Prime Minister Mark Carney’s goal of doubling Canadian exports to non-US markets over the next decade.
